Harley E. “Buffy” White of Redden passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, September 7, 2021.
Buffy, as he was fondly called, was born as a Beebe baby in Lewes to doting parents, Wayne A. and Leona P. (Morgan) White.
After deciding to drop out of school at age 16, Buffy worked in the HVAC industry for many years until his health left him unable to do the job he loved. Buffy was a reliable and conscientious employee, always taking the time to make sure the job was done right and the customer was happy. Over the years, he worked for several HVAC contractors, including Prettyman Heating and Air, Sherman Heating and Air, and most recently Hellens Heating and Air.
He loved to spend time on the weekends driving with his father and good friend George Willey, to car shows, Wilson’s Auction, local dirt tracks and yard sales. Buffy especially liked going to the slots in Harrington and Dover. If you were a friend of his, you definitely knew it because he loved spending time with his friends and family, and it showed. He was a simple man who enjoyed a simple and quiet life.
He is survived by his parents, Wayne and Leona “Penny” White; brother, Wayne M. White Sr. and wife Angie; sister Patty Bodenweiser and husband Eric; cousins, Wayne M. White Jr. (Kurri Hartzell), Tyler White and wife Chelsea, Desi White (Zack Millman) and Dylan White (Carlie Winand); a second cousin, Jase White; two nieces, Delaney White and Mia Millman; and a daughter, Tiffany Griffith; as well as extended family and friends.
The family would like to thank the live-in carers, Sandy Rager and Ash Whitman, for the exceptional care given to him during his long illness. They treated him with unwavering kindness and love and looked after him as if he were their own brother. They were sent from heaven when Sandy replied to a Facebook post for the position, and no one could have taken care of him quite like her. Our family will be forever grateful to them for the many sacrifices they made, having to change their plans due to a scheduling hiccup with the agencies we used. They never asked questions or got frustrated, just stepped on the board and did what was necessary.
Charlotte who works for Christiana Care was a long term assistant to Buffy always going above and beyond for him and again treating him as if he were her own family and we are eternally grateful for her service and her love for her job. We would like to thank Christiana Care and Delaware Hospice for their continued support and service in their care for Buffy and the continued support for the family provided during Buffy’s illness.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 13 at 1:00 PM at the Chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St., Milton. A time of visit for family and friends starts at 11am. Burial will follow immediately at Woodlawn Cemetery in Millsboro.
Flowers are accepted, or contributions are welcome in memory of Buffy at Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963, or to Easterseals Delaware and Maryland Eastern Shore, Adult Day Services, 22317 Dupont Blvd., Georgetown, DE 19947.
