Clapper

Marion R. Clapper, 99, of North Port, Florida, formerly of Hollidaysburg, died of COVID-19 on August 19, 2021 at Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Sarasota, Florida. He was born in Hollidaysburg, the son of the late John and Carrie (McNulty) Clapper.

Surviving are a son, Barry Clapper and his wife, Carol; Grandchildren: Brian, Michelle, Brad and Robert “Robbie” Clapper; great-grandchildren: Morgan Myers, Holly, and Charlotte Clapper; and a special cousin, Robert Holsinger Sr. and his wife, Toots.

Marion was preceded in death by his wife of 71, Kathryn; a son, Kenneth E. Clapper; brothers: Charles, Raymond and Paul; and sisters: Ethel, Francise, Ruth and Dot.

Marion was a World War II veteran of the United States Army Air Corp., Moultrie, Georgia.

Together with his brother, Paul, Marion started Clapper Brothers Plumbing and Heating. In the mid-1960s, Marion and brothers Raymond “Pete” and Paul built Woodland Park Campground in Ebensburg. The park was owned and operated by the three brothers until the campground’s retirement in 1990.

In 1979, Marion started his own plumbing and heating company, MR Clapper & Son, until his full retirement in 1990. For the next 20 years, he wintered in North Port, Fla.

Marion was also a skilled craftsman, many of whose family and friends enjoy his work to this day.

There is no viewing at the request of the deceased. Local arrangements are by The Good Funeral Home Inc., Alto-Reste Park.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date in the comfort of the family.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Marion can be made to the Hollidaysburg Church of the Brethren; Alzheimer’s Association; or a non-profit organization of your choice.
