Roofs of three  colleges collapse

KARACHI – State-run college buildings are threatening the lives of hundreds of students and teachers as the roofs of some buildings or walls in as many as three colleges in different parts of the city collapsed during the recent rainy days. The roof of the Government Degree Boys College auditorium collapsed on Friday. The college is located in North Karachi Sector 5L. Fortunately, the incident happened early in the morning when there were no students and teachers in the college. Similarly, three days ago, chunks of plaster fell from the ceiling and exterior walls of a historic university, Jamia Millia College, in Karachi’s Shah Faisal Colony. No one was injured in the incident. Meanwhile, teachers at Government Degree Girls College North Karachi 11-B reported that the walls of the college collapsed Monday night. Fortunately, no one was injured in the collapse of the wall. The Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association, expressing concern about the dilapidated buildings of state-run colleges, said in a statement that the Sindh Building Control Authority had declared several government college buildings dangerous, but no restoration work had been initiated by the directorate. of colleges and the works department. The association alleged that the directors of those colleges sent several letters to the board reminding the officials involved to begin repair work, but to no avail.

The SPLA called on the college’s education minister and education minister to investigate the matter and take immediate steps to restore the dangerous university buildings.
