Turning your garage into a man cave? When to call a PIRB registered plumber

It might be time to turn your garage into a cool man cavee and put all that extra space to good use! It is believed that a garage has more potential than you can ever imagine. And what better way to use that space than by turning it into a man cave? Whether you want a place to display your sports memorabilia, or simply because you need some space to yourself to catch your breath, here’s how to get started renovating your garage man cave:

GARAGE MAN CAVE | HOUSE RENOVATIONS

The benefits of a garage man cave are endless, but converting a garage into a man cave is certainly easier said than done. Especially if you want to absorb something with water – or at least some kind of liquid. While plumbing is a very important aspect when it comes to the kitchen, bathroom and even your outdoor space, you may want to call a plumber if you want to install a water feature, guest toilet or wet bar in your man cave.

If you are considering a position with a plumbing fixture, consult a Plumbing Industry Registration Board (PIRB) registered plumber before starting your project.

WHO IS THE AUTHORIZATION OF THE PLUMBING INDUSTRY (PIRB)?

The PIRB is a trusted professional body that regulates the plumbing industry and is recognized by the South African Qualifications Authority. The PIRB monitors the sanitation industry’s level of competence and advocates sanitation practices that protect our environment and the health and safety of consumers.

So essentially, PIRB protects consumers from opportunistic plumbers trying to make a quick buck on home renovations without having the necessary expertise.

WHY SHOULD I USE A PIRB REGISTERED PLUMBER AS A HOME OWNER?

Using a PIRB registered plumber has many benefits, but most important of all is the fact that a PIRB registered plumber can issue you a PIRB Certificate of Conformity (CoC) which ultimately protects you as a homeowner. Other benefits include:

  • Unregistered plumbers cannot issue a PIRB Certificate of Conformity (CoC). Only plumbers registered with PIRB are allowed to issue a CoC for work they have done. This Certificate of Conformity is worth its weight in gold in the hand of any homeowner as it protects the homeowner from nighttime plumbers providing poor plumbing services.
  • Issuing a PIRB CoC means that the work performed is checked randomly. These audits are an ongoing internal process of PIRB to maintain the integrity of the industry. By issuing a CoC, the plumber is confident that his work conforms to industry standards.
  • PIRB registered plumbers must earn Continuous Professional Development (CPD) points annually to remain registered. This ensures that registered plumbers continuously retrain themselves to maintain their credibility and registration status. Consumers can therefore rest assured that every PIRB registered plumber has a solid understanding of South African National Standards (SANS) and the latest plumbing practices.

HOW CAN I CONTACT A PIRB REGISTERED PLUMBER?

The PIRB has a search button that can be accessed via: pirb.co.za. On the PIRB home page, look for the green block that reads: “Is your plumber from a PIRB Plumbing Company? Find one today!” Simply enter your city or suburb, the name or zip code of a plumbing company and find a PIRB registered plumber or company near you to jump-start your garage man cave renovation.

Feel free to call the PIRB on 0861 747 275 or 012 654 8245 or email [email protected] for more information.
