Walabot, a unique in-wall imager loved by many DIYers, is getting a massive update today. Earlier, walabot has only worked with Android smartphones, meaning those with an iPhone were left out in the cold. It’s a unique scanner that essentially gives you “X-ray view” of your walls, showing you where the studs are in their entirety, as well as wires, plumbing, and more. Well, today, the Walabot DIY 2 is the latest release for the world’s only visual stud finder. It now works wirelessly, has a built-in rechargeable battery, and even works with both iPhone and Android. So, what does the Walabot DIY 2 do? Let’s take a closer look at that.
Walabot DIY 2 now works with iPhone and Android to upgrade your DIY skills
The biggest change to the Walabot DIY 2 is that it now works with both iPhone and Android. I know we’ve said it a few times, but it’s a big deal. Essentially the new Walabot DIY 2 connects to your home’s Wi-Fi network, so you don’t have to physically connect it to your phone like the previous model. This not only allows it to reach into smaller spaces, but also allows two people to work together like never before.
See in ‘4D’ through plasterboard, lath and plaster
There is a unique radio frequency that Walabot DIY 2 used to let you see into the wall. It can even see in as far as four inches to make sure you know exactly what’s in the back before putting in a single screw. There are two modes to choose from, the most common being ‘fully visual’. This mode shows the entire pipe, thread and stud in your wall, while also providing a feature to show you the center of the stud so you know where the safest area is to put a screw.
It will also help you avoid inserting a screw into a drain pipe, water pipe, or even electrical cable. This means that not only Walabot DIY 2 make your home safer because things can easily be placed in the center of the jamb rather than near one side, as well as avoiding electrical hazards and potential water disasters.
Walabot 2 takes your DIY game to the next level, on sale now
While Walabot DIY 2 is a bit pricey for one stud finder, comes in at $149.95, it’s actually not that bad for what it does. If you’ve ever put a screw in a water pipe or drain pipe and then had to pay a plumber to fix it, you know how costly a mistake can be. It can amount to hundreds or maybe thousands, depending on the type of damage.
We will, Walabot DIY 2 can help you avoid those circumstances by giving you a glimpse of what’s behind your walls. So, before tackling your next DIY project, think, “Do I want to risk hitting a water pipe, floor drain, or electrical cable?” If the answer is no, Walabot can be a useful addition to your DIY toolkit.
While I’ve personally never put a screw into anything other than a stud (or open drywall), it’s inevitable that every time we go hang something in our house, my wife will ask, “What’s on the other side of the wall? Could there be a pipe here?” So we double check, do our due diligence and make sure there’s no reason to do plumbing there…but that’s not always the case I know people who have gone to put up a microwave and accidentally put a screw in a drain pipe of a toilet not realizing it was in the wall and thinking it was a nail because it reacted like a nail on a normal stud finder. However, Walabot would have easily fixed the problem there.
Sure, it’s expensive at $150and if you rarely hang items in your house, it may not be worth it. However, if you are an avid do-it-yourselfer and want to make sure your cabinets, mirrors, pictures and TV never come off the wall, then Walabot DIY 2 should make sure your screws are in the center of each stud.
