Well-paid jobs that can rival £54k lorry drivers and plumbers on £150k

Salaries of up to £53,780 are offered to truck drivers by supermarket chain Waitrose and it is currently one of the best paying jobs available today.

The bumper pay means the truck drivers are paid better than secondary school teachers (£40,880), lawyers (£43,190) and architects (£42,930), according to reports.

Waitrose also offers “a wide range of benefits and a healthy work-life balance” with benefits including discounted holidays and access to a private members’ club, reports the mirror.

And it’s not the only supermarket offering higher salaries and starting bonuses to attract new drivers. Tesco and Iceland have increased salaries by up to 25 percent and are offering sign-up bonuses of at least £1,000. M&S also has a £2,000 incentive.

James Clifford, HGTV’s boss for driver training, said new recruits could earn up to £60,000 a year amid a national shortage of around 100,000 truck drivers caused by a combination of the coronavirus pandemic and post-EU Brexit rules.

The problems have looted supermarket shelves, while restaurant chains such as McDonald’s and KFC have been forced to remove some items from the menu.

Meanwhile, London-based Pimlico Plumbers said it is looking for 50 skilled engineers – and says they could earn up to £150,000. The company said its phones are ringing “red hot” as work previously interrupted during the pandemic can finally continue.

Pimlico engineers can earn £120 per hour during the week, while the rate goes up to £200 for nighttime jobs.

The company said £150,000 was a “realistic figure” for salaries that claimed the highest earners were earning more than £200,000 a year before the pandemic.
